By car

The area near the Museum is covered by a Paid Parking Zone from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.

Public transport

Access is possible by tram and bus.

From the Main Station there are tram lines 9, 6, 8 and bus line 100.

Ground floor

In the Town Hall, on the ground floor there is the Field Gallery, which is a place for temporary exhibitions. Works of art and monuments are exhibited there.

1st Floor

It is located hereWhite Hall otherwise known as the Great Hall of Weta, which is decorated with portraits of kings. Courts and royal audiences once took place in this hall.

Red Hall i.e. the Great Council Hall – There are unique paintings here, including: a series of didactic works by Hans Vredeman de Vries from 1594-1595 and works by Benjamin Schmidt. The main accent of the room is the ceiling composed of 25 allegorical paintings, including “The Apotheosis of Gdańsk”, Mannerist works by Isaac van den Block.

2nd Floor

The second floor of the Town Hall presents paintings by famous Gdańsk painters and porcelain.

The third floor of the Main Town Hall is dedicated to life in the Free City of Gdańsk. You can see here the reconstruction of former banks and pharmacies.

During the summer months, an observation tower is also available to tourists, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city skyline from a height of about 50 meters.

The Main Town Hall is adapted for families with children. The town hall is:

  • Adapted for strollers.
  • There are changing tables for children in the toilets.
  • The gallery does not have large thresholds, which makes it easier to move around.
  • There is a skylight in the Town Hall, but it does not lead to the viewing point – only stairs lead there.
Children 4 - 13 years old

The Main Town Hall is open to families with children. Although there are no special attractions aimed exclusively at children, visiting the historic interiors and admiring the historical architecture can be an interesting experience for the youngest.

Youth 14 - 18 years old

Young people can visit the Town Hall without any restrictions.

When was the Main Town Hall established?

The first town hall was built based on the privilege of King Władysław the Elbow-high in 1298. Further expansions took place in the 14th and 15th centuries and were related, among other things, to urban reforms and the development of local government. New rooms were added, the Court Room (currently the Red Room), and a representative White Room was created. After a fire in 1556, it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style, which gave the town hall a modern appearance. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the building served various functions, and is now a museum, preserving a unique testimony to the history of Gdańsk.

How long does the tour take?

A tour of the Town Hall may take from 30 minutes to an hour. If you want to learn more about the history and explore all the interesting rooms and exhibitions, the tour may take longer.

Is the Town Hall accessible to people with disabilities?
